"But the person who really stole the night was apparel designer Sandy Skinner. Sandy is the creator and owner of EcoSkin, a California-based apparel company. I admired the fact EcoSkin uses environmentally sustainable fabrics to create high fashion clothing for woman. Not only are her designs smart but they are fashion-savvy, chic, and sexy. As the green cocktails circled the W Hotel Station (renamed Green Patio), so did the beautiful models wearing Sandy Skinner’s designs.

"Of course I am supportive of Sandy’s efforts. Sandy told me quite a bit about her company and something she said really struck a nerve with me. I was most impressed by the fact EcoSkin is manufactured in Los Angeles so that she has complete control over the ethically sound manufacturing and trade practices. While the cost of manufacturing eco-friendly materials lead to higher cost in the market, Sandy does not sacrifice morals and values for cheap labor. Additionally, three percent of EcoSkin’s profits go back to three environmental non-profit organizations. One of the non-profits includes Planet and Animal Actors Worldwide.

"Eco-friendly fashion has regained popularity over the last few months. There had been a decrease in interest to find and design clothing with sustainable fabric in 2008. Sandy credits the lack of interest to the downturn in the United States economy. But she believes that as more fashion forward patrons become aware of the eco-friendly option, more will turn towards the more responsible, green way of dress. I personally agree with Sandy. EcoSkin is still a very young company, however, it was quite obvious that it has made a lot of progress. Sandy’s 17 years of experience in the fashion and apparel industry greatly contributes to the attention to detail that is given to her apparel’s design. Every detail from the dyes, stitching, flow on the body, and contemporary design meets a very high standard. I assume that many woman think they have to sacrifice style and elegance for the green lifestyle. But I’m convinced EcoSkin’s elegant designs would cause any gentleman to turn their head and cause every woman to turn Green with envy."
